Review: Sweet Venom

Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs

Synopsis from: Shelfari.com
Published by: Harper Collins

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

Gretchen, Greer, and Grace, three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.

I have to admit, I was a little reluctant to read this book at first. I already knew it was going to switch between three POV's, and I believed that it was going to be a little confusing since there were three people. At first, I didn't really get the title, but once it's explained, you will totally understand it. It makes me feel a little dumb for not remembering.

I started it with Gretchen's POV, and I really liked it. Then I reached Grace's, and I start of got bored. It's not as exciting as Gretchen's, so I put the book down and moved onto the next book that I had. It actually took me a few weeks to get started on this book, and I have to tell you that it was way better than I expected. The first thought was that of yeah, three POV's. That's quite a lot at once. But it turned out for a good portion of the book, it was only Gretchen and Grace's POV. Which was really nice because Greer started to annoy me the second that she was introduced. She was stuck up and snotty, which I had not expected.

I'm in with the whole mythology. I actually used to watch Class of the Titans, this old TV show when I was little. I love stories like this, where it's based around mythology. This is the second book that I've read where the girls are descendants of Medusa, and I've enjoyed this one the most. It went more into depth about her powers and what she could do.

I'm someone who can't deal with a book which is just eat sleep and move on. I need action. Not like drama or anything, but more like kick-ass action. That's why I enjoyed Gretchen's POV's so much, because it was about fighting all of the monsters, and that kept the book interesting. But I have to say that Grace's part was just as interesting. She had just moved to a new school, and she has a crush, so it was really interesting.

Once they came together, I have to say that it got better. It was really exciting, and I found I couldn't stop turning the pages. I know there's going to be another book, but I was really satisfied with what the ending was. Except for the fact about Nick, which is part of Gretchen's POV. He is really annoying, but there's something strange about her. I can't stop wondering if he knows something, and at the end, I think he does.

I recommend this book to anyone who really enjoys mythology books, especially those about Medusa. I guarantee that you will enjoy the book just as much as I did. Which is a lot.

Cover Release: City of Lost Souls

A lot of people know about Cassandra Clare and love her books. One of those people are me. I have all of her books, Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices. So if you're one of these people, you know that City of Lost Souls is the next in the MTI series. Well, I've been waiting for the cover, because seeing that "cover to be released soon" sign was infuriating. So, here it is:

As you probably know, the first three books have people which you can't see the faces for. The last two books, however, were different. You could see their faces without having to guess who the person was. City of Fallen Angels wasn't a big hit with me, because seeing the faces on that one was weird. I liked where I couldn't see the faces. But this one has changed my mind. It is soooooo pretty. I love how Jace (not Sebastian) and Clary are on the cover together. It makes sense, from all the teasers I've read. Can't wait for this book to come out May 8th 2012!!!
